This naturally occurring element is one of the most important metals used in different items we use daily. It is both hard and strong, making it an ideal choice for practical items such as automobiles, buildings and some toys. While the creation of iron is quite bad for the environment, as it makes a great deal of pollution. Hence the need to discover more sustainable practices in both iron production and usage! To reduce the environmental impact of our processes at KPT, we have been working on exploring and perfecting mew methods for production of magnetic iron powder.
Sustainable iron powder production methods
Iron powder If you want to get iron powder, you can also use the iron stones. We then melt the iron ore in a large furnace (oven) at high temperatures. And we pour the liquid iron into molds for it to cool and harden into blocks. Next we cut the solid blocks into bits and grind them to fine powder. This can be extremely highly polluting process because it involves lot of energy and huge amount of wastage.
There we have devised a new production method for iron powder: in the future, the material should be prepared at KPT in a more sustainable way. Instead of starting with iron ore, we make something out of iron scrap which is old iron thrown away. Specialized furnace » We melt the iron scrap here, using much less energy and creating much less waste. We melt the iron scrap and pour it into solid blocks, then crush the solid blocks into powder. This is more environmentally friendly as it cuts down on the waste we produce and conserves energy.
Making usable powder out of iron scrap
Iron scrap is plentiful; old cars, appliances, buildings. And instead of randomly letting all this iron go to waste, we can take that iron and turn it into a useful form: Iron powder. We take scrap iron from all over and bring it to our facilities at KPT where we melt it to make iron dust powder. This naturally not only gives waste disposal savings but also energy savings as we do not have to mine new iron ore.
Iron powder recycling process innovation
Once we grabbed that iron powder, we can do everything from making paint to fertilizers and even food additives. And then what about when we are finished with them? An iron-based system can take old rusty nails and recycle them back into iron powder. A loop, which results in the same iron powder be used several times whilst the requirement for new iron production is reduced and resources saved.
Why greener iron powder production is closer than we might think?
In one, equally crucial sense, we are taking steps to green iron powder production: all of the furnaces feeding our plants run on renewable energy — wind or solar power. This cuts down on the pollution we generate and consequently help to reverse climate change. We're also developing new technologies that require less energy and produce fewer waste thus making our production process even more sustainable.
Iron powder and the circular economy
Nothing is wasted in a circular economy. No part of the facility or process allowed anything to go to waste- it was all reclaimed, recycled, or otherwise repurposed. Iron powder plays an important part in a circular economy, since it can be covered by other materials after use or melted with minimal effort over and over again without loss of quality. Instead, we reuse iron powder, while simultaneously reducing the amount of end-of-life waste we generate and protecting our earth for future generations.
To sum up, iron powder manufacturing is a key industry to our lives. Because at KPT, we pledge to help the world find new and responsible ways of iron powder manufacturing & usage. A better future awaits if we are able to draw on modern-day innovations and incorporate the principles of a circular economy security for all.
